Perkele is Finland's most flexible word. It is an expletive, a greeting, a statement of determination and, in the right tone, a term of deep affection. The bear is Finland's national animal. Together they make a kind of unofficial national motto that no official source would ever print but everyone understands.

For anyone who has ever needed to say something emphatic and found that ordinary words were not equal to the task.

The front print pairs the bear with the word itself, which is all the explanation a Finn will ever need and all the warning anyone else should require. This unisex Bella and Canvas 3001 tee is printed in Europe using durable direct to garment printing that keeps the design soft and long lasting. The fabric is soft and lightweight combed and ring spun cotton with a comfortable regular fit that suits men and women, and it is available in Black Heather, Navy, Kelly, Orange, Heather Prism Peach and Lilac. We offer free worldwide shipping with no minimum, so your shirt arrives wherever you are.

About Very Finnish Problems

VFP was started by British author Joel Willans, who met his Finnish wife in London and moved with her to Helsinki in 2002. Over the next two decades his observations of Finnish life grew into a community of 1.3 million people worldwide. Every design is inspired by real Finnish life and created by Joel and his team in Helsinki. Joel is also the author of the Very Finnish Problems books, written after many years of living in Finland and still not fully understanding it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you ship?
We ship to over 50 countries including the US, Canada, UK, Australia and across Europe, and shipping is always free worldwide.

How long does delivery take?
Most orders arrive within 5 to 10 business days, and you will receive a tracking link as soon as your order ships.

What if the size does not fit?
We offer a 30 day returns policy, so if the fit is not right you can get in touch and we will sort it out. It is worth checking the size chart before ordering if you are unsure.

How should I wash it?
Machine wash it cold and inside out, then tumble dry low or hang it to dry, which keeps the print sharp for longer.

Is it ethically made?
Every item is printed using DTG technology on OEKO-TEX certified blanks and made to order, so there is no batch overproduction.

The shirt itself

This is not a tourist shop shirt that goes stiff and sad after one wash. The design is printed straight into the fabric using DTG, so it stays soft and will not crack, peel or fade the way a pressed on transfer does. The blanks are OEKO-TEX certified, which means they are tested free from harmful substances and safe against your skin. Every shirt is printed to order in small numbers rather than mass produced and left in a warehouse, so what arrives is made for you and built to be worn for years.

Designed in Helsinki by someone who actually lives here

Very Finnish Problems is run by Joel Willans, a British writer who moved to Finland over twenty years ago and never quite got around to leaving. Every design comes out of real Finnish life he's had with his Finnish wife, Anna and their kids, and a community of more than 1.3 million people who know exactly what no niin means.
